Today I took Lorraine to the airport. She is off to visit with her family in Toronto for four weeks. We questioned the wisdom of booking a 7:00am flight out of Vancouver, especially when it takes an hour to get from our house to the airport. That meant getting up at 4:00 to hit the road for 5:00.
We were blessed with virtually no traffic on the roads, though, so we made excellent time and got to the airport in lots of time. I was even home by 7:30 and could crawl back into bed and sleep guilt-free for another hour!
Lorraine’s flight was uneventful. Uneventful flights always rank high on my gratefulness list!
We have free calling to each other’s cellphones so we can always talk. We even have webcams so we could even have tea together – as long as we made our own! Having grown up in a time of operator-dialled long distance and time-limited calls, the ready, instant communication we now have still makes me stop and say thank you for that ability.
Even with a house to myself for the next three weeks (yes, you read right), there is so much to do and so much to be thankful for. I am so blessed with friends to talk to and visit. You might wonder if I’ll even notice Lorraine’s away!
And the answer, of course, is yes. I’m so grateful to have her in my life.
